As the Agency of Investigative Journalism „Sportlight“ announced and supported with the evidence, the entrepreneur Marcos Valério, who has been detained since 2013 for being involved in a corruption scandal that became known as the „Mensalão Mineiro“ (a diversion of public funds for the gubernatorial re-election campaign of Eduardo Azeredo in Minas Gerais state in 1998), stated that Ary Graça, the President of the CBV at the time, diverted part of the sponsorship money from the „Bank of Brazil“ (Banco do Brasil, the official sponsor of the CBV) that should go to the CBV. Allegedly, Graça did it with the help of the bank directors.

„During the bank’s sponsorship, CBV was supposed to gain a part of money that was delivered into account, legally, through deposit, and another part in cash, which, according to the bank’s board of directors, was intended for the President of CBV, Ary Graça,“ revealed the main collaborator in the process, Valério, who was sentenced to 37.5 years in prison for embezzlement, active corruption, money laundering and crimes against the financial system.

The Federal Supreme Court will now consider whether to accept this statement as valid for setting off a procedure against Graça or not.

This case was just another in series of corruption scandals in which the CBV officials were involved.
