– Anna, how do you pass the last few days before the Olympics.
– We are now at our base in Novogorsk. We recently arrived from Italy, where we played the tournament. Today is the third day of the cycle, then we have a free day. Then, just two days left before departure.
Trainings are held in a stressed mode, because everyone understands that it remains a matter of days. All of us actively work. There is no misunderstanding. Everyone realize that we are gathering for the great purpose. In general, all is taking place in the labor intensive mode.
– The last tournament in Italy you did not win, was the tournament helpful?
– I would not say that the 100% team played. Luba Sokolova played only one game. I think the emphasis was placed the overall rhythm. Tatiana Kosheleva, while not playing, held several training sessions and understands what she can do now, after some health problems. I can tell you that Tanya is progressing with each workout.
As a result, there were test games. We need to look and rivals, and several actions to correct.
– On this tournament you lost to Turkey. This is the third defeat from this team. It’s not a very pleasant tendency, given that you have to meet with this team at the Games in London.
– Yes, but the fact is that we were not fighting in full force. Zhenya Estes didn’t play, plus Luba Sokolova played her first game after a pause. These two players have a huge role in our team. I would not take this result so seriously into account.
– For you, the forthcoming Olympic Games in London become the debut of your career. There’s a little time before the start of the tournament. If it is possible to describe your emotions in words.
– It’s hard to explain… Initially my chances of playing in the Olympics were one percent. When they announced the team and I saw myself in it, I had indescribable emotions.
I remember once long ago, at the very beginning of my career, I had to fill in some form, where one of the questions was something like: “Your goal and dream in the sport? I wrote: “Participation in the Olympics.” Many of the girls answered the same. I honestly didn’t think that it will ever will happen. But now, after many years, I feel that this goal is very close. Frankly, at this moment I want to change my answer “Do not just participate in the Olympics, to achieve the goal we have as a team.”
– Appetite comes with meal times…
– There are absolutely unique emotions – you go on the most important tournament in the world together with a huge delegation of your compatriots-athletes.
– You talked to those who already have a similar experience – what they remembered most of all?
– No, we didn’t speak of that. Probably, it is best to see that with your own eyes. All becomes clear only when you find yourself there.
– You already have information about the London stadium, what kind of light, balls?
– To be honest, no, I do not know. However it seems to me, there will not be anything special. Covering a game, balls are the same. I am sure that everything will be well organized and prepared for the athletes to feel as comfortable as possible.
– We shall not think too far, but what about your group. What do you think about your first opponents?
– If we can play our game, then no problems should arise.
