– After two games in the Final Six you failed to qualify for the World League semifinals, but still have been in Sofia. As an observer, do you think of these matches?
– First of all, I am very happy that we managed to reach the Final Six. For our team it was a very good result. Unfortunately, we were somewhat disappointed with our performance, especially losing a match with Bulgaria. In this meeting we did not play like we can, it was not our volleyball.
Other teams such as the USA, Cuba and Poland played at a very high level. I think that this level matches will be played in London. Therefore, the opportunity to observe such meetings, it was extremely important to us. We could see what we can expect at the Olympics.
– You mentioned that this is a very good season for the German volleyball. What has changed recently? Did the new coach Vital Heynen bring a new spirit to you?
– Last year, in November during the pre-Olympic qualification we had many meetings with the team. Again, we found the team spirit. Again we know what we can do as a team, that is the most important thing. Many have learned a lot from Vital. It’s also important that we can communicate well with the coach, not only because of the fact that he talks to us in German. After three or four years with Lozano, it has not brought any results. I think it is now the biggest difference. Even in football, the coach introduces a change like a new beginning. Even if the training does not make great new things, you begin a new chapter. Everyone tries to give their best or even more. If we play in London, as we played in the World League group stage, I would be happy.
