It's always difficult when a professional athlete picks up an injury. That was also a case with Erin Fairs, however, she has learned something out of this situation.

As she has confirmed, she has become mentally stronger. Let’s ask Erin Fairs about her recovery process.

How’s your recovering going?

Recovery is going well, I feel better every week. Just going to physical therapy and playing volleyball every week to get back to my normal self. “

Have you ever faced a similar situation in your career and how did you feel after finding out that you will be out for a couple of months?

This is the first time I’ve really hurt myself and had to sit out from playing. To be out this long has been frustrating for me because I have never experienced a season of volleyball going on and I’m not on the court. At the end of the day, I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and I truly have learned so much about myself and ready to make a comeback because I’m stronger mentally than I’ve ever been.”

When you are expecting to make a comeback?

I am cleared to play but again just trying to get more comfortable with playing again because it has been a while and I want to decrease my chances of getting hurt again. I’m hoping by the end of January I’m good as new!”

In the last season, you were a member of Proxima Krakow and the Omag San Giovanni. How would you describe your experience in Poland and Italy?

Last year I planned on going to Poland but the team shut down right before the season so I ended up going to Italy and playing for Omag San Giovanni in Marignano. I loved playing in Italy and had a great experience playing and learning the language!”

Are you satisfied with your general experience overseas?

Yes, I am very satisfied with my experiences, I have learned the culture and so many different languages. Met lifelong friends along the way and played some great volleyball with came with some awesome fans!”

What are the main differences between the volleyball in the USA and Europe, in your opinion?

The main difference I would say is that the players are more crafty as in mixing up their shots which makes it harder to defend a player. You also have way less subs than you have in the United States so you find more developed players overseas.”

Where would you like to play in the future?

I could play in Italy, Puerto Rico and Turkey again but some places I haven’t played in yet that I’m interested in are Korea, Philippines, China and Greece to see more of the world! Currently we are evaluating the options with my agency Shining Stars,” says Erin Fairs for WorldofVolley.
