The titleholder is Lube Civitanova. The Italian powerhouse won this trophy in a season 2018/2019 and they still hold the crown since the last season didn’t finish due to a world pandemic. However, Lube will be dethroned on May 1st and a clash between Zaksa Kedzierzyn Kozle and Trentino will decide who becomes the new champion.

PERFORMANCES OF ZAKSA AND TRENTINO IN 2020/2021 SEASON
Let’s mention the national championships. Zaksa had a great regular season in the Polish Plusliga, winning 23 games out of 26, while Trentino ended the regular season in the Italian Serie A1 in third place, grabbing wins in 16 out of 22 matches.
Zaksa has managed to reach the playoff finals in the domestic league, beating Slepsk Suwalki and PGE Skra Belchatow. In the finals, they are playing against Jastrzebski Wegiel and they lost the first game of the playoff finals.
Unfortunately for Trentino fans, they ended their Serie A1 campaign losing in the semifinals of the playoffs to Lube (3-1 in series). That means the Italian side will try their best to make this season successful.
HEAD TO HEAD
These two teams met last time in a season 2017/2018 and the Polish side has two wins in a row against the Italian powerhouse. Two Champions League group stages clashes were taken by Zaksa in 5 sets each, confirming that the meeting on May 1st will be uncertain until the last moment.
In a season 2014/2015, Trentino beat Zaksa twice in the CEV Cup semifinals to advance to the finals. Both games had dramatic endings which proves that we are going to watch an amazing duel.
ROAD TO THE FINALS
Zaksa had a slightly easier group in the CEV Champions League compared to Trentino’s one. The Polish team ended in the first place, winning all matches in Pool A among PGE Skra Belchatow, Fenerbahce and Lindemans. Trentino had the same score in a Pool E beating Lokomotiv, Friedrichshafen and Karlovarsko two times each.
In the quarterfinals of the playoffs, Zaksa knocked out Lube and later in the semis beat Zenit Kazan after taking the golden set on the home court.
Trentino met BR Volleys in the quarterfinals, beating them twice, losing only one set. In the semis, Perugia had to lift the white flag since Trentino was a much better rival.
