SCD Executive Committee praises members’ involvement in World Champs qualification process

The Executive Committee of the CEV Small Countries Division (SCD) met over this past weekend in Edinburgh, Scotland. he Committee welcomed the news that a record-breaking number of its members – i.e. Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein Luxembourg, Malta, Northern Ireland, San Marino and Scotland – are involved in the qualification process for the 2014 FIVB World Championships.

SCD President Margaret Ann Fleming and her colleagues covered an agenda ranging widely over strategic and operational issues including youth development camps, Beach Volleyball and continuing work within CEV and FIVB.

The Committee welcomed the news that a record-breaking number of its members – i.e. Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein Luxembourg, Malta, Northern Ireland, San Marino and Scotland – are involved in the qualification process for the 2014 FIVB World Championships that is set to start this coming May.

Discussions took place as to the viability of the SCD to financially support Federations wishing to send athletes to this summer’s indoor and Beach Volleyball camps in Luxembourg and Malta respectively.

The Committee reviewed the positive growth of social media among its membership and agreed to add Twitter to its portfolio, praising Secretary General Marta Ibanez Blanco and Press Officer Paddy Murphy for the innovative diligence.

President Fleming outlined the new administrative arrangements for SCD which are now in place at the Scottish Volleyball Association (SVA) offices in Edinburgh. She concluded the meeting with thanks to the UK Sport for their financial support and that of Sportscotland, CEV and the SVA in helping with arrangements towards the hosting of the meeting in Scotland’s capital.
