Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler have secured a spot in the men’s beach volleyball final at the Paris 2024 Olympics, toppling the Tokyo 2020 champions in a thrilling semifinal on Thursday. Facing off against Norway’s Anders Mol and Christian Sorum, the third-seeded Germans delivered a spectacular performance at the Eiffel Tower Stadium, winning 2-1 (21-13, 17-21, 15-13) in a pulsating three-set match.
Ehlers shone with nine kill blocks and an impressive 30 points, while Wickler contributed 14 points and the team’s only ace. Despite a strong showing from Mol, who scored 17 points with six kill blocks and two aces, and Sorum with 12 points, the Germans emerged victorious. Ehlers & Wickler will now await the outcome of the evening’s semifinal between Qatar’s Cherif Younousse & Ahmed Tijan and Sweden’s top-seeded David Ahman & Jonatan Hellvig.
