Swedes David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig, the number one team in the FIVB World Ranking, have secured their place in the final of the men’s Olympic beach volleyball tournament in Paris. They will face Germany’s Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler for the gold medal on Saturday evening.
In a decisive semifinal match, Ahman and Hellvig defeated Qatar’s Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan 2-0 (21-13, 21-17), delivering the only straight-set win among the four semifinals. This victory also marks Sweden’s first-ever Olympic medal in beach volleyball.
The bronze medal match featuring Cherif and Ahmed against Norway’s Anders Mol and Christian Sørum is scheduled for 21:00 local time (19:00 UTC) on Saturday, followed by the gold medal match between Ahman & Hellvig and Ehlers & Wickler at 22:30 (20:30 UTC).
