Former world-class volleyball player Igor Omrčen, who made a significant impact in Italy and Japan by winning trophies in their top competitions, has remained active in the sport even after his impressive playing career. Omrčen, known for his role as an opposite hitter, has transitioned into coaching and education, sharing his vast experience with younger generations at his hometown club, OK Split in Croatia, where he began his volleyball journey.
As the former captain of the Croatian national team, Omrčen has taken on the responsibility of overseeing the entire sports program for the men’s section at OK Split, from the volleyball school to the senior team. In the upcoming season, he will continue to lead his team as the head coach in Croatia’s top-tier competition, the Superliga.
Omrčen emphasizes the development of young players, with nearly his entire team also competing in youth categories. He exemplifies how top athletes can stay connected to their sport after an illustrious playing career, passing on their rich knowledge and experience to guide younger athletes on their sporting and life journeys.
