Bulgaria defeated Greece by 3:1 (25-9, 20-25, 25-21, 25-12) in the first match of the second competition day in Baku, where the second tournament in Pool D of second round qualifications is being played. This way the winners of this Balkan derby stay on top of the current standings while the losers no longer stand a chance of making it to the finals in Belgium and the Netherlands. In the second match of the day Azerbaijan also took four sets to secure the three points against Portugal. With the latter also no longer with a chance to move on in the competition, the home team claimed the match by 3:1 (25-27, 25-23, 25-18, 25-14) to maintain the one-point distance behind the pool leader.
