Marte Hoffiz, who is also the North, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) President, was selected to chair the event in recognition of his long career as promoter of development of women’s volleyball in the country.
“We have selected Mr. Marte Hoffiz to preside the ceremony because he has been an extraordinary hard worker to develop women’s volleyball in our country,” President of the Sport Hall of Fame Permanent Committee, Dr. Luis Scheker Ortiz said.
“We also considered some other candidates of merits but the name of Marte Hoffiz stood out among all of them.” Scheker added. “He has been a credit for our sport and a well deserving person to preside the induction of our 2014 class.”
The ceremony will be dedicated to the Dominican Republic Women’s Volleyball Team that finished in fifth place at recently concluded FIVB World Championship in Italy and also to pitcher Bartolo Colón, who this summer reached the 200-win plateau in his Baseball Major League career.
The inductees’ class of 2014 includes Major League Baseball stars such as outfielder Moises Alou and pitcher Ramon Martinez, and basketball players Alejandro Tejeda and Teresa Duran. Also Dr. Jose Joaquin Puello, Ad Vitam President of the Dominican Republic Olympic Committee and softball player Josue Polanco and judoka Andrea Hernandez.
