Hangzhou Asian Games 2022 Volleyball Tournament Schedule Announced

The schedule for the Hangzhou Asian Games 2022 Volleyball Tournament has been announced. The draw was conducted by Mr. Shanrit Wongprasert, Honorary Life Vice President and Executive Director of AVC, and Mr. Dong Wei from the Chinese Volleyball Association. The schedule is available on the official website.

The tournament will be held in four venues in Hangzhou, China, namely Hangzhou Normal University Cangqian Gymnasium, Linping Sports Center Gymnasium, Deqing Sports Center Gymnasium, and China Textile City Sports Center Gymnasium. The pool round-robin preliminaries will occur at all four venues, with the men’s final scheduled for September 26 at Linping Sports Center Gymnasium, and the women’s final on October 7 at Hangzhou Normal University Cangqian Gymnasium.

A strong field of 19 men’s teams and 13 women’s teams have confirmed their participation. The men’s competition will run from September 19 to 26, while the women’s event will be held from September 30 to October 7. This division ensures there are no clashes with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Qualification Tournaments.

China will host defending champions in both the men’s and women’s categories. Hosts China, Iran, Japan, Qatar, Korea, and Thailand are among the prominent teams to look out for. On the opening day of the men’s tournament, Kyrgyzstan will play Kazakhstan, Nepal will face Bahrain, and India will meet Cambodia. In the women’s category, matches to look forward to on the first day include India vs DPR Korea, Vietnam vs Nepal, and Japan vs Hong Kong, China.

The tournament format includes pool round-robin preliminaries, followed by ranking matches and cross-matches for advancement. Top two teams from various pools will compete in cross-semifinals, leading to the final showdown.
