Following the election of Roko Sikiric as the President of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV), the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) has also welcomed a new leader. Mr. Ramon Suzara, the Secretary of the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Commission and President of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), has been elected as the new AVC President. He secured 48 out of 63 votes, including 20 proxies, in a highly anticipated election.
Ramon Suzara, a well-respected figure in the volleyball world, becomes the 9th AVC President and the second from the Philippines, following Mr. Nemesio Yabut Sr., who held the position from 1976 to 1979. His election is a significant milestone, signaling a fresh wave of optimism and energy in the sport.
His election, alongside the new leadership in CEV and the upcoming FIVB elections, where the current General Director Mr. Fabio Azevedo is the sole candidate, signals a strong foundation for the continued growth and success of global volleyball.
Ramon Suzara succeeds Mrs. Rita Subowo, the outgoing AVC President, who in her farewell speech highlighted the progress made during her tenure and expressed confidence in the future under new leadership. She emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and unity within the AVC, which has been instrumental in its strength and success.
This new leadership across key volleyball organizations is laying a solid foundation for the sport’s bright future, both in Asia and around the world.
