CHN M: For the 4th season in a row, championship title goes to Shanghai

Shanghai are the new Chinese men’s volleyball Super League winners.

The top-seed Shanghai swept No.2 Beijing in Game 6 of the 2017-2018 Super League playoff finals, partially 27-25, 25-20, 28-26, to close the series by a 4-2. Out of all six encounters in the finals, this was only the second time that one team prevailed in straight-sets (Beijing won Game 2 by a 3-0).

The Hungarian Krisztián Pádár, who came to Shanghai only 24 hours before Game 4 of the series, topped the titleholders in a decisive match with 22 points. The Frenchman Kévin Tillie was the most efficient player in Beijing with 14 points. The Pole Michał Kubiak failed to bring an impact on today’s game as he scored 3 points. According to the media in China, he had some sort of physical discomfort that prevented him to play with full force.

Beijing opposite Jiang Chuan received an award for the best scorer in the league. He tallied 449 points overall.

By clinching the 2017-2018 title, the 14th in the club history, Shanghai completed a run of for consecutive gold medals in the national championship. As for Beijing, they reached the finals for the fifth time in the last six years, winning two.
