ACS Volei Municipal Zalău handed over Divizia A1 title to Tricolorul LMV Ploiești after their mutual encounter in the last round of the 2017/18 playoff stage.
Before the last round, two teams had nearly an equal chance to win the national title as the point difference between them in the standings was only one point. Ploiești were the leaders with 74 points, while CS Arcada Galați were the second-placed with 73 points.
Arcada did their best to make Ploiești players nervous as they defeated SCMU Craiova in straight sets. But, since Ploiești did the same to Zalău, partially 27-25, 25-17, 25-19, they were crowned titleholders for the first time in 11 years of the club existence.
Laurenţiu Lică led Ploiești with 14 points (4 kill blocks) today. The international from Saint Lucia, Julian Bissette, made 80% attack (8/10).
