Marcelo Mendez has been officially announced as the new head coach of Italian champions Itas Trentino. The 61-year-old Argentine signed a two-year contract with the club, extending through June 2027.
Mendez brings with him over four decades of coaching experience, having led national teams like Argentina and Spain, as well as top clubs in Brazil, Spain, and Poland. Most recently, he coached Jastrzębski Węgiel in Poland and will finish his tenure with Argentina’s national team at the 2025 World Championship before joining Trentino in October.
“It’s a big challenge and an exciting opportunity,” Mendez said. “I’m eager to bring my style of play to a club that’s already achieved so much.”
Trentino Volley president Marcello Poli praised the hire, highlighting Mendez’s international success and leadership. “Marcelo’s experience and approach align perfectly with our vision for the future,” Poli said.
Mendez becomes the third foreign coach in the club’s history. His arrival is seen as a strategic step to maintain Trentino’s strong position in Italy and European volleyball.
