Itambé Minas secured their third Brazilian Women’s Volleyball Championship title!

After waiting for 17 years, Itambé Minas secured their third national title. The Belo Horizonte side, the top seed, rejected all the efforts of the reigning champions, No.2 seed, Dentil/Praia Clube on the road in Game 2 of the Superliga Cimed 2018-2019 playoff finals: 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 25-14, 28-26). Thus, Minas crowned a nearly perfect season in which they regained the dominance in Brazil after nearly two decades. In addition, they conquered the national Cup, Super Cup, and the South American Club Championship. The victory in Game 2 of the playoff final series (2-0) gave the team from the Minas Gerais state its third national title (1993, 2002, and 2019).

Praia seemed to lack of the offensive power Fernanda Garay “Fê Garay”, who got injured in Game 1 but still could push the encounter to the tie-break as they dropped an 18-12 in the fourth set. Natália Zilio scored 23 points (four kill blocks) for Minas in the match that brought her team the Superliga title.

Caroline Gattaz “Carol Gattaz” added four kill blocks as well. Michelle Pavão top-scored for Praia with 16 points (four aces), while Fabiana Claudino made 71% attack (10/14) and set up four kill blocks.

Superliga Cimed 2018-2019 playoff finals – Game 2:
