São Paulo Football Club concluded a partnership with the Women’s Volleyball team Hinode Barueri to take part in the Superliga for the 2019/20 season. The creator of the project is current Barueri and Brazil Women head coach José Roberto Guimarães “Zé Roberto“, who will lead the newly formed team with the name São Paulo/Barueri.

Barueri itself is a very young club as it began its activities in October 2016. They won the Silver Cup, the first competition in which they participated, and earned a spot in Division 2 (Superliga B). In April 2017, Barueri climbed another step by clinching the gold medal in Superliga B and thus, progressing to the top division – Superliga. In 2018, they were runners-up of the state championship (Campeonato Paulista). In the last 2 editions of Superliga, Barueri reached the playoff quarterfinals.

As for São Paulo, they had the Men’s Volleyball team once, in the early 2000s, when they partnered with a three-time champions Ulbra and competed in the top division. Also, they concluded a partnership with EMS Taubaté Funvic in April 2015 but it was terminated only six months later.

With São Paulo as Barueri’s partners, 3 football teams will have their branches in the 2019/20 Women’s Superliga. The other two are Fluminense (Fluminense F.C.) and newcomers Flamengo. The Men’s competition will include football branches of Cruzeiro (Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei) and newcomers Botafogo and América-MG, who partnered with Montes Claros Vôlei.
