This is something you definitely don’t want to experience in a Volleyball match, either while playing it or watching it from the stands.

A highly unpleasant scene marked the preliminary round match between Brazil and Japan in the FIVB U20 Women’s Volleyball World Championship in Mexico, 3 days ago. Luckily no spectators were injured, while players were far enough from the scene. This is what happened.

Due to heavy rain that fell in the city of Aguascalientes, one of the 2 cities hosting the tournament, part of the roof of the hall collapsed during the match causing it to be delayed for three hours. The water invaded the stands and flowed unstoppably toward the court. This scared the spectators who were fleeing to the exits from the hall in panic (see the video below).

Some media in Mexico reported that one of the viewers got injured. It was a real fortune that this number was not higher. After the break, the teams returned to the court of the Morelos auditorium and Japan prevailed over Brazil by a 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-19).

Both teams advanced to the Top 8 in which Japan recorded a win against the USA while Brazil lost to Italy. There are 2 more rounds to be played in this stage of the U20 World Championship.
