Türkiye and Brazil have secured their spots in the semifinals of the women’s volleyball tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics, each achieving impressive quarterfinal victories on Tuesday.
Türkiye, led by a stellar performance from Melissa Vargas, defeated China 3-2 in a thrilling match. Vargas delivered a remarkable 42 points, guiding Türkiye to their first-ever Olympic semifinal in women’s volleyball. Despite trailing initially, Türkiye overcame China with set scores of 23-25, 25-21, 26-24, 21-25, and 15-12. The Turkish team, making only their third Olympic appearance, will face either Italy or Serbia in the semifinals.
In another quarterfinal clash, Brazil continued their dominant form from the pool phase, sweeping the Dominican Republic 3-0. Brazil’s captain, Gabriela ‘Gabi’ Guimarães, led the team with 20 points, supported by Ana Cristina and Rosamaria Montibeller with 14 and 11 points respectively. The Brazilians will await the winner of the match between the United States and Poland for their semifinal opponent.
