The hosts sent their 5,000 fans home happy with a 3-1 (26-24, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23) win over Poland to move a point clear at the top of the group while Finland saw off Canada in straight-sets (25-19, 25-22, 26-24).
“We played in Brazil looking for nine points and we made it,” an ecstatic Brazil captain Murilo Endres said. “That was an excellent result for us. This was our best match against Poland so far and we still have a lot to improve. We still let them score too many points in the end of the sets and that cannot repeat anymore.”
