BRA W: Rexona break Praia’s home court invincibility, Tandara helps Minas to skip Osasco

Round 19 of the Brazilian Superliga was a true treat for those who enjoy volleyball in that country with two encounters of teams among the top four in the standings.

Although it was played as last, the game between leaders and second-placed team was probably the most important. Reigning champions and leaders in the standings Rexona-Ades had to work hard, but managed to down Dentil/Praia Clube on road in front of packed stands in Uberlândia 3-1 (28-26, 24-26, 25-15, 25-19).

With this win marked by amazing defense (60% of positive reception), Rexona broke Praia’s invincibility at home court this season that lasted nine games. In the same time, Rexona extended their overall winning streak to 17 games and widened gap on top comparing to today’s opponents to six points.

Natália Pereira scored game-high 23 points and was voted MVP while on the other side, American Alexandra Klineman had 19.

The game worth the third place in the table was played Belo Horizonte where Camponesa/Minas came out on top over Vôlei Nestlé/Osasco.

In the standings before the clash that started very balanced, Minas were in fourth place with 40 points, one less than Osasco. In a game, the team coached by Paulo Coco took advantage of the support coming from the stands to win 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23. With the triumph, Minas has risen to 43 points and took the third place, exactly from Osasco.

Tandara Caixeta topped Minas’ scorers with 19 points. The Cuban Kenia Carcaces collected 17 in the team of Brazilian vice-champions.

The star of the day was Ana Paula Cruz, receiver/outside hitter of Pinheiros/Klar, who scored 33 points in a four-set win of her team against Concilig/Vôlei Bauru, partially 25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 25-20. She helped Pinheiros to take over eighth place which, at the moment, ensures playoff participation.
