Cruzeiro won all six matches and collected 17 points from the first part of the tournament, having the most problems in the Round 3 encounter against Montes Claros Vôlei (3-2).  In the last round of the first stage of the tournament versus Minas Tênis Clube 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 26-24), the Cuban Yoandy Leal highlighted Cruzeiro with 22 points, while the Argentine newcomer Nicolás Uriarte was excellent in conducting the team’s attacks.

In the Paulista Championship (the Championship of the São Paulo state), the favorites Funvic Taubaté and Sesi-SP advanced to the quarter-finals. Taubaté will meet Division 2 (Superliga B) side Vôlei Itapetininga, Corinthians-Guarulhos (who secured their place in Superliga by winning the recent Golden Cup) will face São José dos Campos, while Vôlei Brasil Kirin/Campinas will play low ranked Climed/Atibaia. Sesi secured a direct qualification for the quarter-finals.
