Dr. Ary S. Graça F°, the President of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), recently faced the alleged claims of illegal financial transactions at the time when he was at the helm of the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) that were made by the Agency of Investigative Journalism „Sportlight“. WorldofVolley has received an official note from the media representative of Mr. Graça in regard to this matter, that we will publish in full.

1)    Mr. Graça is not and has never been “accused of illegal financial transactions“ by the Brazilian justice.

2)    All “accusations“ came from the same journalist after he was fired from the ESPN and currently he is the sole person working for this self-denominated “agency“ – an agency of oneself. Since 2014, he is acting in a clear persecution and linked to a political group which is against Mr. Graça.

3)    Mr Marcos Valério (the entrepreneur who has been detained since 2013 for being involved in a corruption scandal that became known as the „Mensalão Mineiro“ – a diversion of public funds for the gubernatorial re-election campaign of Eduardo Azeredo in Minas Gerais state in 1998) is trying to get a plea bargain agreement with the Brazilian prosecutors but they refused it due to lack of evidence. Mr. Valério is accusing many people without probes in order to get this agreement and nowadays he has no credibility at all. Mr. Valério is in jail since 2013 and is sentenced to 37 years in prison.

4)    The Federal Supreme Court is now considering whether it will authorize the Federal Police to accept the plea bargain of Mr. Valério or not as they did not accept it.

„Ary Graça did not receive any payment from the sponsorship agreement of the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) with Banco do Brasil. The CBV received payment strictly according to the commercial agreement signed between the two entities, which was absolutely within the law. Ary Graça has never personally benefited from any sponsorship agreement in cash or in any other way, as Marcos Valério has alleged, based on unsubstantiated reports from third parties. Ary Graça is not aware of any transfer of money from Banco do Brasil to any organization or individual outside of what was clearly specified in their contract with the CBV. The allegations against him are not true and without foundation. Ary Graça was not benefited by slush funds, much less from the receipt of cash. It’s not of his knowledge who could have been benefited from it,“ the PR Agency of the FIVB President sent us to publish.
