The turnaround that Imoco made yesterday in Istanbul is something that not many clubs have managed to make throughout the history of the CEV Champions League knockout stage. This is how their head coach Daniele Santarelli saw this epic display:
“It was an incredible performance, a victory of the head and of the heart, unexpected and for this reason even more beautiful. We hadn’t played our volleyball in the first leg, but tonight we played a great match in the field of one of the strongest clubs in the world. I have to congratulate my girls, they were extraordinary, playing the game to the limits of perfection; even when we were in trouble we never lost our minds, remaining in order and focused, always focused on our game.“
On the other hand, Fenerbahçe Opet İstanbul nearly avoided a poor fate against Savino Del Bene Scandicci in the other Turkish-Italian duel.
“We are very satisfied! Semi-finals of the Champions League – it’s a big thing for us! Also for me – this is the first Champions League semi-final in my career and I am really very happy about it! I would like to thank everybody in our club and all the spectators! Now we have another Italian opponent in the semi-finals. They are definitely one of the best teams in the world, but we have our chances and we’ll play our best game to follow our dream to go to Berlin.” Zoran Terzić, head coach of Fenerbahçe, said.
„I must say that there were two high-level sets from my team, not just the first two. Even in the third set, we were able to reach an initial advantage of the rivals. Then we went ahead, but at some point somehow we stuck. Still, the team fought until the end. I would like to congratulate all the girls anyway because we came here very determined to change the outcome of the first leg. The first leg was unlucky because we did not do well,“ Scandicci head coach Carlo Parisi stated.
