Croatia National Team noted its premier victory in the 2019 CEV Women’s Volleyball European Championship which is co-hosted by four nations (Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Turkey) for the first time in the history of the tournament.

Croatia bounced back from an unfortunate defeat to Azerbaijan at the 2019 EuroVolley opener to outplay the Final Round rookies Estonia in four sets, partially 25-18, 25-17, 26-28 and 25-12, on Day 2 at the Papp László Sportaréna Budapest (Hungary).

Samanta Fabris set the example for her teammates in Croatia National Team with 14 points, including impressive 6 aces. Teenage middle blocker Božana Butigan set up 4 kill blocks. Kertu Laak scored 11 points for Estonia.

In the neighborly derby, Romania downed Pool C hosts Hungary by a 3-1 despite an amazing attacking display of Anett Németh (26 points) and blocking performance of Eszter Anna Pekárik (8 kill blocks). Adelina Budăi-Ungureanu scored 21 points for the winning side.

Slovakia and Germany did not feel the bitterness of a loss in the tournament. The pool hosts Slovakia, supported by the record crowd of 4,100 spectators at the Ondrej Nepela Arena in Bratislava, are still living their dream as they swept Switzerland by a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-22) to reach a 2-0 record.

Karin Palgutová topped Slovakia’s scorers with 18 points, while Michaela Španková made 67% positive reception. Maja Storck scored 15 points for Switzerland.

Germany do not give up on claiming the pole position in the pool as they overcame a slow start of the match against Spain to write down a 3-1 win.

Jennifer Geerties was Germany’s best scorer with 16 points. Denise Hanke made 91% excellent attack! Young outside hitter Ana Escamilla was brilliant for Spain with 26 points (4 aces).
