POOL A
The Pool A hosts Turkey kept the perfect record in the 2019 EuroVolley after two rounds by rejecting the comeback of Finland in front of more than 7,000 spectators at Ankara Sport Hall: 3-2 (26-24, 25-15, 20-25, 21-25, 15-10). On the other hand, the national team from Scandinavia remained winless in their first appearance in the continental championship after 30 years.
The prospect Ebrar Karakurt poured in 26 points (68% positive reception) for the winning side, while Eda Erdem Dündar and Zehra Güneş made 4 kill blocks. Finland was led by Piia Korhonen (19 points), Roosa Helena Laakkonen (5 kill blocks) and Salla Karhu (79% excellent reception).
Greece recorded their first EuroVolley victory since 1991 as they downed France in straight sets. Olga Strantzali top-scored for the national team from the Mediterranean with 18 points. Maria-Eleni Artakianou made 80% excellent reception. Christina Bauer scored 11 points for France, including 5 kill blocks. Amandine Giardino made 68% positive reception.
POOL B
One of the tournament’s co-hosts Poland and Belgium each scored the second win in Pool B and have a perfect record. Well-packed stands at Atlas Arena in Łódź (nearly 8,000 spectators) saw the returnee to Poland National Team, Katarzyna Zaroślińska-Król, shining in the 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-11) win of her side against Portugal with the game-high 18 points (5 kill blocks).
Belgium closely follow Pool B hosts in the battle for the top spot as they swept Slovenia in three sets with 20 points (70% excellent attack) from Britt Herbots. Iza Mlakar scored 19 for Slovenia.
