The reigning Czech champions Jihostroj České Budějovice were trailing by 2-1 in sets against Fenerbahçe HDI Sigorta Istanbul on the road, but they finally defeated Turkish titleholders in the tie-break: 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 17-25, 25-21, 15-12).

Filip Křesťan and Petr Michálek top-scored for České Budějovice with 19 points apiece, with the latter making 5 of his team’s 18 kill blocks. The Dutchman Wouter Ter Maat tallied 22 points for Fenerbahçe.

The last Czech side that wrote down success in the most elite club competition in Europe was exactly České Budějovice, who beat Hypo Tirol Volleyballteam Innsbruck from Austria in January 2015.
