The Netherlands became the first team to book a ticket for the semifinals of the 2020 European Women’s Olympic Qualifier, which they host. The “Oranje” swept Bulgaria by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 26-24) in Round 2 to make nearly 4,000 fans at the Omnisport in Apeldoorn very proud. The Netherlands remained perfect in Pool A with 2-0 and 6 points. Nika Daalderop highlighted for the “Oranje” with 19 points, while Anne Buijs made 82% reception (22 digs, 45% excellent).
Germany downed Belgium to celebrate the 2nd success in Pool B. Now, only the mathematics can spoil the advancement of the “Butterflies” to the semifinals. The team coached by Felix Koslowski beat the “Yellow Tigers” in 4 sets of which 3 went into the overtime: 3-1 (33-31, 26-24, 24-26, 25-22). Belgium failed to convert 6 set points in the opening set and remained winless against Germany even after 6 years in a row. Louisa Lippmann delivered 30 points for Germany, while Camilla Weitzel made 5 kill blocks. Britt Herbots scored 26 points for Belgium, including 4 aces.
In the same pool, Turkey recorded their premiere victory in the tournament. The continental vice-champions prevailed over Croatia by a 3-1 with as many as 5 players scoring in double digits. They were led by Zehra Güneş (16 points, including 6 kill blocks).
