Qatar stunned Australia in 3 sets in the Pool B match valid for Round 2 of the 2020 Asian Men’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament, partially 25 -15, 25-21, and 25-23. With this victory, the 2nd successive, the Qatari team assured their advancement to the semifinals. Qatar will meet South Korea at the end of the pool stage, tomorrow, and will have the chance to seal the top spot in the pool and schedule the semifinal duel with the 2nd placed side in Pool A. Brazilian-born Geraldo Filho top-scored for the winning side with 14 points, while Syrian-born Belal Nabel Abunabot made 5 kill blocks. In the same pool, South Korea triumphed over India (3-0) to keep their semifinal hopes alive. They will have to take 2 sets in the last round against Qatar to reach the semis. Any other outcome would push Australia to the knockout stage, under the assumption they beat India.
In Pool A, Iran struggled in the opening set against Kazakhstan but cruised comfortably through the next 2 sets to book a ticket for the semis. China had many difficulties to break the resistance of Chinese Taipei (3-2) but managed to secure a semifinal berth.
