Turkey once again spoiled the big plans of Poland at a major event and progressed to the semi-finals of the 2021 CEV Women’s Volleyball European Championship.
Turkey made Poland powerless in the quarter-final encounter at the CEV Women’s EuroVolley 2021. The former didn’t even have to show its A-game in Plovdiv (Bulgaria) to surpass the rival which it also eliminated two years ago in the semi-finals of the European Championship and in the additional Olympic qualification tournament this year in The Netherlands. Ebrar Karakurt highlighted Poland with 20 points. Simge Şebnem Aköz made 75 % reception (12 digs, 25 % excellent). Magdalena Stysiak scored 14 points for Poland, while Zuzanna Efimienko-Młotkowska set up five blocks.
Just like Turkey, the Dutch team also overcame its rival in the quarter-finals in three sets. After a somewhat stiff start against the most pleasant surprise of the tournament Sweden, ‘Oranje’ has confidently qualified for the semi-finals, repeating a straight-set victory over the Scandinavian ladies in the pool stage. Nika Daalderop top-scored The Netherlands with 16 points. Isabelle Haak notched 18 for Sweden.
