Out of today’s nine rematches of the 16th-finals of the 2022 Women’s Volleyball CEV Cup, Porto made the biggest, and only, upset.
Portugal’s AJM FC Porto showed that their 3-0 win over Greece’s Olympiacos Piraeus in the first leg of the 16th-finals of the CEV Volleyball Cup 2022 | Women at home was no coincidence. Even though they trailed 1-2 in the rematch in Piraeus, Porto were not discouraged and leveled at 2-2, by which they avoided playing the Golden Set. Thus, the side commanded by the Spaniard Carlos Carreño made the biggest upset of the day in the competition and qualified to the eight-finals.
In the rematch of the two teams of rather equal quality, Hungary’s Vasas Óbuda Budapest were knocked out by Romania’s CSM Volei Alba Blaj, which took the rematch 3-0, upgrading 3-1 from the first leg.
The two biggest favorites for winning the trophy, Turkey’s Eczacıbaşı Dynavit İstanbul and Italy’s Unet e-work Busto Arsizio, had no problems advancing to the next stage.
