One of the rules of the Chinese Women’s Volleyball Championship has been changed only a few days before the start of the new season.
The Chinese federation (CVA) introduced a rule that restricts the number of foreign players on the court at the same time in the 2021/22 Women’s Super League, which is set to start in two days. In each team, only one import can be deployed, which is a huge setback for the participants given that all title contenders had already hired two foreign players. For instance, Shanghai will not be able to field the two great protagonists of the last Olympic Games, American Jordan Larson and the Korean Kim Yeon-Koung, at the same time.
It is necessary to see if the same regulation will be applied to the men’s league which will start at the beginning of next year. With this new rule, CVA seems to be working against its own championship and viewership. The national federation already made a confusing competition calendar with as many as three major club events being held one after another, not specifying that the previous one was not valid for determining the official champions.
