The countdown is over — the 20th FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship serves off in Thailand on August 22, marking the beginning of a historic new chapter for the sport.

For the first time, the tournament adopts a biennial format and welcomes an expanded lineup of 32 teams, offering more nations the chance to shine on volleyball’s biggest stage. Matches will be spread across Bangkok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Phuket, and Chiang Mai, with the finals scheduled for September 7 in Bangkok.
The opening round will feature 48 matches as teams battle through group play. The top two squads from each pool will move forward to the high-stakes knockout phase — culminating in the Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and medal clashes.
Hosting the event for the first time, Thailand steps into the spotlight, with its national team eager to ride the wave of home support and push beyond past results. Global volleyball giants like Brazil, Italy, the USA, and reigning champions Serbia are also preparing for intense showdowns, while newcomers such as Sweden and Slovenia hope to leave their mark.
Fans around the globe can tune in to VBTV for live coverage as this milestone edition sets the tone for a new era of women’s volleyball.
