CHN W: Shanghai not Chinese champions, main thing, Super League, yet to start

This season, the club competition calendar in Chinese volleyball is rather extensive and a bit confusing.

Ten days ago, the 2021 China Telecom National Championship concluded in Jiangmen, and Shanghai took the trophy (after that, the 2021 Men’s National Championship was played, won by Shanghai). The confusion that even led to labeling it by leading bookmakers as the official championship lasted until the very end of the tournament. It was filled with absences of practically all the country’s national team members. They decided to refuse to play due to the proximity of the previous national competition (National Games) and the next, which is the 2021/22 Women’s Super League.

Foreign players engaged by the clubs for 2021/22 also didn’t take part in the National Championship. It was quite surprising but now we know why – the main thing is yet to come and clubs preserved pillars. They even kept on reinforcing, such as Tianjin. Exactly Tianjin are to defend the title, which many thought they already lost to Shanghai.

All in all, the 2021/22 Women’s Super League will start on November 21, 2021, and last until January 19, 2022.
