Helga Sasso will command Curitiba in the 2021/22 Women’s Superliga. The 60-year-old will be the only female head coach of any of the Brazilian topflight teams this season and first after six years when Sandra Leão was on the bench of São Carlos/Araraquara (2014/15).

Sasso was born in Chile but obtained Brazilian citizenship in time to compete for youth categories of the country and later in the senior team with which she won the South American Championship in 1981. She came to the Paraná side from the NCAA volleyball. Interestingly, Curitiba planned to have a female coach this season‚no matter what. Sasso came instead of Kely Kolasco, who was officially announced by the club for 2021/22. However, she asked to be excused for family problems before the start of the Superliga.
