Greece’s Panathinaikos AC Athens have qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2022 CEV Men’s Volleyball Challenge Cup, achieving the best result on the international scene in the last decade.
After 10 years, since they successfully overcame the group stage of the CEV Champions League 2010-2011, Panathinaikos AC Athens secured the qualification to the Top-8 in one of the European cups. In the rematch of the Round of 16 of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2022 | Men, the team commanded by Dimitrios Andreopoulos beat Ukraine’s Epicentr-Podolyany Horodok 3-2 and eliminated the rivals from the tier-3 competition in the continent. After 3-1 in the first leg, Panathinaikos needed to take only 2 sets today so after they got 2-0 it was all over. Charalampos Andreopoulos top-scored ‘The Greens’ with 15 points, while Athanasios Protopsaltis served 5 aces.
Panathinaikos is now the third side to secure a berth in the quarter-finals after Turkey’s Halkbank Ankara (their Austrian rivals Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel withdrew) and Estonia’s Tallinn Technical University (eliminated the Swiss Volley Schönenwerd in the Golden Set a week ago).
