Russian Zenit Kazan lost only one set in two matches in the 2017 Men’s Volleyball CEV Champions League Playoffs 6 against compatriots Belogorie Belgorod. Despite the fact his team had to work hard for each of the sets they won, Zenit coach Vladimir Alekno had nothing to object to his players, which does not happen very often.

“When we found out that Iereshchenko will not play for Belogorie, we naturally made some adjustments, but in general the tactics of the Belgorod team, which they have chosen against us, was were visible. I’m satisfied,” Alekno said after the 2nd leg vs. Belogorie and added that he was cheering for Dinamo Moscow against Berlin Recycling Volleys in order to see two Russian clubs in the Final Four and admitted he was sad because this did not happen.

“Yesterday’s two sets is the play that we must show throughout the season. It was more or less even, everyone played well, there were not any big failures. And then León appeared with those hits… Nevertheless, you can play with Kazan team, you can beat it. But not yesterday, I guess,” Belogorie receiver Sergey Tetyukhin stated and took the blame for losing the second set to himself.
