The 1st round of the 2016/17 CEV Champions League Playoffs 12 stage is over. Some are definitely happy with this week's results, while some will need a true volleyball miracle to advance to the next phase of the competition.

The Russian and Italian teams dominated the courts in the 1st leg of the Playoffs 12 games.

Zenit Kazan, Belogorie Belgorod and Dinamo Moscow all acquired “clean wins” (3-0 or 3-1), so they are very close to progress to the Playoffs 6 stage.

At the same time, in the clash between Italian and Polish teams, the Italians acquired two big away victories. Lube will await the rematch against Skra Belchatow with a 3-1 win in their pockets, while Modena scored a tie-break win on the road against Asseco Resovia.

When you add that Zaksa got defeated in Belgorod against Belogorie by 3-1, you get all 3 defeats for the Polish clubs this week.

As far as Turkish teams are concerned, they have two representatives in the Playoffs 12 stage. Istanbul BBSK acquired a tie-break win over BR Volleys at home, while Arkas Izmir suffered a straight-sets defeat at home against Dinamo Moscow.

Are the Russian and Italian leagues so much better than the other volleyball championships in Europe?

Playoffs 12, 1st leg summary:

Russia – Zenit Kazan, Belogorie Belgorod, Dinamo Moscow – 3 teams, 3 wins

Italy – Lube Civitanova, Azimut Modena – 2 teams, 2 wins
