CZE M: Karlovarsko kick out defending champs České Budějovice to progress to first-ever playoff finals

ČEZ Karlovarsko became surprising finalists of the 2017/18 Czech men’s volleyball championship UNIQA Extraliga.

The fourth-seed ČEZ Karlovarsko eliminated the top-seed and also defending champions VK Jihostroj České Budějovice in the 2017/18 Extraliga semifinals with a 3-0 in the series. Thus, Karlovarsko became the finalists of the national league for the first time in the club history. Furthermore, this season is only the fourth season of the club in the top division!

The veteran opposite Filip Rejlek topped Karlovarsko in Game 3, which ended with the tie-break (26-24, 24-26, 25-22, 17-25, 15-13), with 30 points. The Pole Paweł Halaba scored 23 points for České Budějovice, while Radek Mach made 75% attack (9/12, 1 error).

 

The name of the second finalist is still unknown as No.3 Kladno volejbal cz took a 2-1 lead in the series of the semifinals against No.2 Dukla Liberec with a 3-2 win in Game 3.
