WCH 2018 M: Grbic’s machine runs over Italy in front of 15,000 fans

by WoV

Serbia have played an amazing game tonight, defeating co-host Italy in front of their fans in straight sets 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-18).

Serbia vs. Italy

Serbia vs. Italy

Gianlorenzo Blengini’s side didn’t have any solution for the Serbian boys. They were managing at some points to reduce the lead, to come closer to the Serbian team, but it didn’t last that long.

Only in the second set, Italy had some chances to stay in the race, however, with some amazing defensive moves and great solutions in the attack, Serbia beat the rival to take a 2-0 lead. We don’t need to mention the first set, as Serbia were very dominant from the start until the end of that part of the game.

In the third, Italy didn’t have enough strength to stop the domination of the Serbian lads.

There is one interesting fact – the Serbian players managed to keep Juantorena’s and Zaytsev’s scoring performances below 10 points each. Ivan had 9, while Osmany ended the game with 4 points.

Daniele Mazzone was the player with double-digit: 11 points. In Serbia, Atanasijevic had 19, Kovacevic 11, while Ivovic and Lisinac added 10 points each.

This win is a big step towards the semifinals for Serbia! The next game of Italy is a must-win situation and if they lose it, Serbia and Poland will advance to the semis…
