Brazil defeated the USA in a big derby of the world volleyball to close Week 3 of the 2019 FIVB Women’s Nations League with the third win in nine matches.

Brazil took advantage of 10 more unforced errors than their rivals (21-11) to down Pool 10 hosts, the USA, in Lincoln, Nebraska, by a 3-1 (25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20). The two sides were leveled in the block with 8 kill blocks apiece but Brazil had a highlight of the night in their squad – the outside hitter Gabriela Guimarães “Gabi“ who poured in 26 points with a 65% attack success rate. What might worry Brazil’s fans and their head coach José Guimarães „Zé Roberto“ is the fact that a returnee to the squad Natália Zilio was unable to play more than one set and was replaced by Amanda Francisco.

Andrea Drews scored 19 for the United States who are at 7-2. Both Brazil and the USA are within the qualifying zone in the overall Preliminary Round standings for the Final Six.

Germany out-blocked South Korea (11-1) in their Pool 10 encounter to score their third win (3-0) in nine VNL matches this year and only the first on the major world-level tournament against the Asian side after seven years (2012 FIVB World Grand Prix) On the other hand, Korea lost by a 3-0 scoreline for the 14th time in the tournament’s history, already setting a negative record of 13 straight-set losses in previous round against Brazil. Argentina was the team with the most 3-0 defeats in the VNL (12) prior to this.

Louisa Lippmann top-scored for Germany with 18 points, while Lisa Gründing set up 5 kill blocks. Kim Yeon-Koung notched 11 for Korea (fifth defeat in a row, 1-8 record) in the first full match that she played for her national team after making a debut in the 2019 VNL in Week 3 (played only the opening set in the first two matches of Week 3).

Re: @aerler I am looking forward to seeing how Haak will do. Because, after one season, she might pair up with Zhu Ting to make a formidable front line.Vakibank made her a millionaire so the pressure is on.
