Russia broke a seven-game losing streak in the 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League, which was their longest winless run in a single world-level tournament, set for the second time in the history of the national team (Soviet Union had the same run in the 1976 Montreal Olympics and 1977 FIVB World Cup combined).

Russia faced a threat of setting a new record in defeats in major world-level tournaments (9). They set the previous record of 8 overall defeats twice – in the 2019 VNL and 1995 FIVB World Grand Prix. However, they managed to avoid it by beating South Korea 3-1 (25-23, 15-25, 25-20, 25-17) on Day 1 in Pool 13 (Perugia, Italy).

The „Zbornaya“ also avoided setting a new negative record in successive defeats (8).

Kseniya Parubets top-scored for Russia (2-8 record) with 16 points. Kim Yeon-Koung tallied 17 for Korea (1-9), who lost six matches in a row in the tournament.

Pool 13 hosts Italy made a great evening to their fans in Perugia, achieving the eighth victory in 10 matches in the 2019 VNL.

The „Azzurrine“ blew Bulgaria away in straight sets, making a pleasant welcome to the outside hitter Caterina Bosetti who returned to the court after a knee injury.

It was a great match for Indre Sorokaite as she poured in 19 points for the winning side. Gergana Dimitrova scored 15 for Bulgaria who are at 0-10!
