Belgium turned a 0-2 deficit against the neighbors, the Netherlands, into a new victory, the sixth in 10 games in the 2019 VNL: 3-2 (22-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-19, 15-10).
After losing the first two sets with a narrow margin, the “Yellow Tigers“ hit back hard mostly thanks to Kaja Grobelna who put down 32 points (5 kill blocks). Thanks to this victory, Belgium is only one place out of the top six that will compete in the Finals.
This was the fifth successive defeat for the Dutch team, which happened to them in a single world-level tournament for the first time since the 1999 World Grand Prix. Maret Balkestein-Grothues scored 17 points for the losing side who are at 2-8.
Germany (4-6 record) continued to terrorize the Dominican Republic (5-5) as they beat them for the 14th time in a major world-level tournament (there is no other team that Germany beat more times than the Caribean side in a major world-level tournament).
Germany’s Louisa Lippmann scored game-high 20 points, while Bethania de la Cruz made 15 for the Dominican Republic.
