The 2025 Girls’ U19 Volleyball World Championship kicked off with fireworks as co-hosts Croatia and Serbia battled through thrilling five-set openers on home soil.

In Osijek, Croatia came back from a set down to edge past Germany 3-2, with Asja Zolota putting on a show for the home crowd. Meanwhile in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia fell just short in a nail-biter against Chinese Taipei, who clinched it in the final frame.

Argentina and Puerto Rico also delivered a five-set classic, with Argentina taking the win in a back-and-forth showdown.

Day one saw plenty of action, with dominant wins from Brazil, Italy, and the USA, and strong starts from Canada, Mexico, and Japan.
