VNL 2019 M: Australia succumb to Piano’s huge blocking display, Bulgaria wrecked by Nishida’s serves

Italy kept a good direction towards Final Six as they prevailed over Australia in Week 3 (Day 2) of the 2019 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League.

Italy beat Australia by a 3-1 (25-18, 30-32, 25-18, 25-15) in Pool 10, noting their sixth win in the 2019 VNL (2 defeats) and collecting 18 points.

Matteo Piano marked his 2019 VNL debut by setting up as much as 7 kill blocks for the “Azzurri“. As usual, Gabriele Nelli was Italy’s top scorer in the match as he poured in 26. Riccardo Sbertoli served 4 aces. Luke Smith made 9 points for “Volleyroos“ who are at 1-7 (6 points).

Japan came back twice in the match against Pool 10 hosts Bulgaria, in Varna, to record their third win (5 losses) in the 2019 VNL, having 8 points. That is exactly the record that Bulgaria made as well.

Yuji Nishida scored 26 points for Japan, including 7 aces! Tsvetan Sokolov made 12 for Bulgaria, playing three out of five sets.
