VNL 2019 M: Iran impressive against Russia, Canada’s Vernon-Evans first player to pass 30-point milestone in 2019 VNL

Iran finished Week 3 of the 2019 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League in an impressive manner – with the third straight win.

Supported by an enthusiastic crowd in Urmia, Iran recorded the fifth straight win in the 2019 VNL and reached an 8-1 win-loss ratio.

The Asian side swept Pool 11 with all three victories, with the last one coming against Russia. By beating “Zbornaya“ 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-23), Iran ended rival’s seven-game winning streak in the 2019 VNL (7-2 record).

Amir Ghafour was unstoppable in Iran, making 77.3% attack success (!) rate (17/22) and 17 points. Viktor Poletaev scored one point less than Ghafour for Russia.

Canada opposite hitter Sharone Vernon-Evans became the first player to pass a 30-point milestone in the 2019 VNL as he poured in 31 in the defeat of his team against Poland in Pool 11.

The Eastern European side has never lost to Canada at major world-level tournaments, making the 13th victory.

Dawid Konarski scored 21 points for Poland (5-4 record), while Lucas Van Berkel gave support to Vernon-Evans in Canada (4-5) by making 4 kill blocks.
