By beating Iran in a direct duel for a spot in the semifinals in Pool B of the Final Six, Brazil joined Poland, USA, and Russia in the fight for medals.
The two teams that highlighted the preliminary round (Brazil with a 14-1 and No.1; Iran with a 12-3 and No.2), but with both losing to Poland in their opening games, gave a real feast to more than 4,000 spectators at the Credit Union 1 Arena, of which most were Iranian fans.
Having as much as 5 players in double digits, Brazil extended their winning streak against Iran at major world level tournaments to six matches, prevailing in all three in the VNL by a 3-2. Brazil squandered the lead in sets of a 2-0 but miraculously recovered from a 3-point deficit in the tie-break (5-8).
With margins being leveled in the block (14-14) and practically in the service as well (8-7 in favor of Brazil), it is the unforced errors that made the difference in the match (33 of Iran and 20 of Brazil).
Ricardo Lucarelli scored 16 points for the “Seleção” of which 6 came from the service line! Lucas Saatkamp made 6 kill blocks. Milad Ebadipour tallied 22 points for the Asian side, while Amir Ghafour and Seyed Mousavi set up 4 kill blocks apiece.

It was a fantastic game. Brazil won previous game 3-2 and most of spectators were predicting that this match is as easy as previous but Iranian players show that anything is possible if you work hard and believe that you can! Brazilian players were stronger and highly skilled but in volleyball, no one can say win is absolute.
