According to the Polish website WP SportoweFakty, the 2019 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Club World Championship will have only four teams, none of them will come from their country!
Over the past few years, the number of teams that participated in the tournament stabilized at eight. But, this number will be cut to half for the next event. So, only four teams will play for the prestigious trophy this time: the South American champions Sada Cruzeiro (Brazil), the best team in Asia Shahrdari Varamin VC (Iran) and the 2019 CEV Champions League finalists Cucine Lube Civitanova (Italy) and Zenit Kazan (Russia). This means that even the last Club World Championship titleholders Itas Trentino will not take part, too!
The new rules will be different compared to previous editions. The first stage will be played in the round-robin format. Then, No.1 vs. No.4 and No.2 vs. No.3 will play the semi-finals. The tournament is scheduled at the same time as the Women’s (another novelty), on December 3-8.
The name of the country that will host the Club World Championship for Men is still unknown. Some sources say it will be Brazil, while WP SportoweFakty pointed out Ningbo, China, as the main candidate.
