France (Europe), Iran (Asia), Tunisia (Africa), Venezuela (South America), and Canada (NORCECA) have won the men’s continental Olympic qualification tournaments and have joined the organizing country Japan and the 6 teams that have already secured their berths via International Qualifier (Italy, Poland, Brazil, USA, Russia, and Argentina).

Based on the ranking of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), which is the only criterion for determining pools in the Olympics, this is the composition of the pools for men:

Pool A: Japan, Poland, Italy, Canada, Iran, and Venezuela.

Pool B: Brazil, USA, Russia, Argentina, France, and Tunisia.

Turkey (Europe), South Korea (Asia), Kenya (Africa), Argentina (South America), and the Dominican Republic (NORCECA) clinched women’s continental qualifications and joined Japan and 6 teams that have progressed to Tokyo during the last summer (Italy, Serbia, China, Russia, Brazil, and USA ).

The look of the women’s pools is the following:

Pool A: Japan, Serbia, Brazil, South Korea, the Dominican Republic, and Kenya.

Pool B: China, USA, Russia, Italy, Argentina, and Turkey.

Is Russia going to be allowed to participate or even as Russia?

Not sure this has been determined. So no, I don’t think anything is finalized.

That being said, Pool B is a deathtrap

2 things that can change composition of this 2 groups:
1. RUS situation
2. JPN not seeded top 6 in the World Ranking (7). In the past, host countries not seeded top 6 were top seed in the Group A
